Germany Overpower 10-man Australia

We finally see a match with some goals in it, of course there have been some great matches so far but they were nothing in comparison with Germany's imperious showing.

Germany - Australia

June 13, 2010 - Durban, South Africa - epa02200163 Germany's Lukas Podolski celebrates after scoring the 1-0 lead during the FIFA World Cup 2010 group D preliminary round match between Germany and Australia at the Durban stadium, Durban, South Africa, 13 June 2010.
It was a great game, while Germany are a much younger and more technical team (read about that more here), Australia are an aging, physical team. What we saw today was a demolition job by Germany, but it wasn't a total destruction match, Australia often looked dangerous against the Germans. In fact, right at the beginning from a corner, Tim Cahill ghosted in to header towards goal which hit a Bayern defender, allowing Garcia to rifle it towards the open net, only stopped by a great block by Lahm.

But it's too bad that in the 8th minute we saw the organization of Germany take over, Ozil's pass cut through Australia's defence as Muller cut it across to Podolski who smashed the ball right at Schwarzer who just couldn't hold the power of the shot. So one down, just about 20 minutes later, Klose, just after missing a great chance in front of goal, headed it in from a wonderful cross by Lahm with Schwarzer off of his line.

REUTERS/Daniel Munoz (SOUTH AFRICA - Tags: SPORT SOCCER WORLD CUP)The second half was more of the same, just worse for Australia because in the 56th minute, Tim Cahill goes in from behind on Schweinsteiger and gets a straight red for what would usually be a yellow card tackle. In the 68th minute, we see another silky smooth maneuver by the Germans which allows Muller to slide it in off the post for Germany's third. And the fourth and final goal was a textbook through ball to Ozil who then squared it to the just subbed on Cacau, yet another beautiful goal.

Germany's possession game was devastating for Australia, the man on the ball always had three or four options due to the constant activity off the ball. This generation of young players play as if they've been together for decades, Germany are certainly one of the scariest teams out there and they should have few problems getting out of their group in first place.
