  1. Why Messi???? What did he do at the world cup????NOTHING!!!!!!!!Cristiano is more than better!!!!!!!!!

  2. Well, Messi has had a magnificent season with Barcelona, Ronaldo on the other hand had a good season but not as good as the Argentinean's. This World Cup Ronaldo has scored a goal (while Messi hasn't) but other than that he offered little. Messi on the other hand had some fantastic games this World Cup only being stopped by some great goal-keeping and the woodwork.

I think it's harsh not to put Ronaldo among the nominees, but there have been better players this season and this World Cup.

    Thx for the comment!

  3. if the dutch win the world cup, sneijder will have won every trophy the season had to offer and will be a shoe-in. even if they don't, i think he should still get it. what a player. why real sold him and bought kaka for 5 times the price i'll never know.

  4. Yes, for me he has to win it. Even if he has a terrible performance in the final, and Villa, Xavi, Robben, and all the other nominees playing have a fantastic game, for me he still deserves to win. For a player to leave a club like Real Madrid (he was pretty much thrown away), join Inter Milan, and lead their victory to the treble is indescribable.

As for Kaka I feel terrible for him, a player with so much good faith and skill, goes to Real Madrid and is plagued by injury. Then he has an okay World Cup, but I still can't help but feel bad for him.

    Thx for the comment.

  5. why so many bayern munich players??? barca played far better than bayern munich and they have 99 points on la liga table(which is more than any team)... klose was in the bench all season so why he is nominated??? is this only based on worldcup performances not premier leagues or champions league???

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well, there's certainly Bayern Munich dominance, but you have to consider that Robben and Schweinsteiger had to be on the list, then you have young Thomas Muller who had a great season and is having an even better World Cup, and Klose who seems eternal with his high scoring at the World Cup.

As for Barcelona, I'm actually very disappointed that Andres Iniesta isn't on the list, and neither is Gerard Pique or maybe Puyol. I think Iniesta is a mastermind and he deserves to be on that list, and it would be nice to see Puyol get a bit of recognition as a quality center-back and full-back who defends well and scores, he might even win the World Cup!

And to answer your final question; domestic seasons count, obviously we see a lot of Bayern players because of their great season, winning the double and almost the Champions League. But the World Cup comes around only once every four years, so when a player performs well in the World Cup, that means a lot. Another thing about Klose is that the Ballon d'Or is also used to recognize players past career achievements, not only has he had a splendid career in the past, but now he's shining with the national team. He's almost reached Ronaldo's World Cup tally of 14 goals, and that's an amazing achievement, so maybe FIFA is right and he should be recognized.

Thx for the comment, and please continue!

  7. messi deserves dis thing under a better manager and team who would have out shone all dis dudes dont forget his barcelona exploits...hes d best

  8. I think Sneijder will take it - he`s been high this year both with club and his nation...
But I wish Diego Forlan to win - his a stylish leader, bringing victories for Atletico and Uruguay

  9. Eddy
i think sneijder is the man of the 2010.we need not to compare for his has done very excellently both in the leagues and the world cup finals.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, Sneijder will take it for me, and Forlan has been recognized with the FIFA player of the tournament award.

Messi I'm not sure, he's lacked in personality for me, this World Cup he didn't try to take the reigns enough, and he pretty much let Argentina lose to Germany.

  11. Is this a joke or sth? Ronaldo is not on the list yet bayern munich's bench warmers like Klose and Mueller are get a place there just because the scored four and five tap-in goals in a world cup. Complete nonsense. Rooney had a great season at United too don't forget. NONSENSE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, while Ronaldo had a great debut season with Real Madrid, I don't think performed that well at the World Cup. And I think that the World Cup is taken into consideration quite a lot from the Ballon d'Or panel because it comes around only once every four years.

I think it's because the World Cup only comes around once every four years that Klose and Muller are on the list, because if it was just about their domestic season, they wouldn't be on that list.

As for Rooney, he had probably his best season for Manchester United, but there were no trophies for the red devils this season, and he underperformed at the World Cup.

    Thx for the comment.

  13. This is why americans should not be allowed to comment/watch/play/see/hear the sport of football. Your a moron. Muller started every game bar 2 where he came off the bench and another for which he was suspended. he scored 13 goals and assisted 10 in the bundesliga in his 1st season as a pro. hes the greatest prospect germany has right now. he has the potential to become one of the greatest players to ever play the game. all his goals were not tap ins at the world cup, almost all were part of amazing counter attacks and he finished them superbly. he also assisted 3 goals at the world cup. there is nothing more to say. hes simply outstanding and you call him a bayern bench warmer. please look up the stats before you talk nonsense you american.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, I think that everyone should be allowed to comment/watch/play/see/hear football/soccer, but I do think that there's some ignorance on the part of NATTY-DRE. Muller has been a revelation fhis season, and I see him going down as one of the greatest players of all time alongside Zidane, Pele, Maradona, Baggio, etc...

  15. u guyz r so bored wid lyf...ur arguing about nationalities on a soccer website!!
    anyway
Sneijder deserves the award an he will probably get...and if ders any1 who even cums close 2 him, its diego forlan

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, I sort of agree with you, the game isn't about nationalities, it's about appreciating it. I sort of think like you, I think that Sneijder deserves it, and after him for me it's Iniesta.

    Thanks for the comment.

  17. no rooney or drogba?maicon? why is casills there? should be julio ceasar

    ReplyDelete
  18. This season's Ballon d'Or awards really reflect who put in good performances at the World Cup. I think that's the only reason that Rooney, Julio Cesar, Drogba, etc. aren't in the list.

    ReplyDelete
  19. while there's some logic to chooseing only players who played in the champions league and world cup finals (with exception to forlan) i think its a bit ignorent to overlook some really great player who had great seasons outside of those 4 teams.

rooney has to beat klose into that list for me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yep, for me it's crazy that Rooney isn't on this list.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No No No No. Rooney had a great season but i still think that Drogba deserves to have been on that list more than him. It's ridiculous that he didn't win the Player of the year award because he scored more goals , got more assists,(got less penalties) and he scored more match winning goals than rooney.

But Sneijder will probably win it for winning more or less all the trophies he could but really when it comes down to performance i would probably say for the WC it was Forlan cause he carried his team throughout the whole thing and for their club seasons, then either Sneijder or Messi.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, I think Rooney was in a different situation at Manchester United, had to adapt his game (heading) with a team which wasn't as powerful and supporting as Chelsea was. But I also think that Drogba should be recognized for his goalscoring which continues on and on.

But in the end, Sneijder was fantastic throughout the season, and I agree with you that Forlan was amazing this World Cup.

    Thanks for the comment!

    ReplyDelete
  23. ballon d or s not for players who perform only at the world and how could a clown like klose be on the list....messi just had his greatest season in terms of goals....i think he should top the list followd by sneijder and xavi

    ReplyDelete
  24. XAVI

Perhaps people will vote Sneijder because of the Champions League, but as seen yesterday, Internationale it's not as good as a lot of people think. Xavi it's being for the last years, the best midfielder in the world as you can see through Barcelona and Spain. If you like to enjoy football go for Xavi, if you rather like to be bored watching antifootball go for Sneijder. (for instance, as seen in FIFA's WoldCup Final)

    ReplyDelete
  25. well actually i think messi should win it bcause the ballon d'or should not be just based on the world cup performance, dont forget that the WC is once every 4 years and sometimes the players dont feel very comfortable with their national team specially after spending so much time with their clubs like messi's case so the WC is not a great reference to judge a player so i think they should stick to the champions and the premiere league to label the players and with that lionel messi is the best with no doubts

    ReplyDelete
  26. it's between forlan iker snejider and robben...
but raul should have won it as a tribute

    ReplyDelete
  27. What is Klose doing on the list? It should be Higuain instead of him, Klose did nothing for his club, Higuain has been a top scorer both internationally and for his club.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ADEJOH SIMON OMALE

What did a player like Messi need to do again to proof that he deserves to retain this award. He was fantastic for Barcelona through out the season, the highest goal scorer in champions league, laliga and in Europe as a whole. He was fantastic at the world despite not scoring a goal. After him comes players like Iniesta(the unsong hero)Xavi,Forlan,Sneider,Drogba,Rooney,Julio Ceaser,Puyol,Pique, and some of the Bayern players mentionend but,not Klose. Why is FIFA merging these two awards?other continents like the South American(the home of real football),Africa and others.I dont think it is good.

    ReplyDelete
  29. what about mesut ozil? i mean a lot of the goals that Mueller scored were just assists from Ozil? Schweinsteiger and Klose deserve their place though

    ReplyDelete
  30. Robben would have been a really good contender for this award but unfortunately he's injured for the rest of the season. Hope he still gets a good rank. According forlan, sneijder or forlan should win.

    ReplyDelete
  31. where is iniesta he is one of the best players he scored the final goal

    ReplyDelete
  32. For me, it's between three players
    Robben, Sneijder and Forlan!

    For these reasons:

    1) ALL THREE HAD AMAZING SEASONS WITH THEIR RESPECTING CLUBS (Inter, Bayern and Atlético Madrid)

    2) All of them won something this year (champions league cup (Sneijder), seria A title (Sneijder), Runner-up in world cup (Sneijder and Robben) Europa league cup (Forlan), Won golden ball in world cup (Forlan), won football of the year in Germany (Robben),Won league title Bundesliga (Robben), Runner-up in Champions league final (Robben)

OVERALL, THESE THREE DESERVE TO WIN BOTH THE BALLON D'OR AND FIFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2010 AWARDS!

    ReplyDelete
  33. True, but what an amazing season that Messi had, I have a feeling that the small Argentinean will be overshadowing this award for years to come. Thanks for the comment!

    ReplyDelete
  34. we are all awear of the great goal that see spain through they should give it to him........ iniesta

    ReplyDelete
  35. this is wrong.....on the other site it says cristiano ronaldo is a nominie....i dont know y he is not here...weird

    ReplyDelete
  36. wesley sneijder did a treble last season, and had 5 goals for the world cup, 5 star performance.
Forlan did lift the europa league through personal talents displayed against liverpool in the semi finals and against fulham in the finals, and had 5 goals in the world cup. A 5 star performance.
Robben did double in the league fantastically, and played the finals of the uefa champions league. he did had an average rating of 7.0 in his 5 world cup games. a 4 star performance.
THESE ARE THE REAL PERSONS TO CONTEST FOR THE TITLE.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with you, and I believe that it will be Sneijder who wins. He revived Inter Milan enough to win the treble, how can you do better than that?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi, Xavi's surname is Hernández, so you can add it to the list. He must win this, now or never. If he does'nt then I hope Andrés Iniesta wins. Sneijder is a good player but lost the World Cup. Sorry for that...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks, I forgot about that. While I agree with you that Xavi and Iniesta deserve to win the Ballon D'Or, I feel like Sneijder will win it because of what he did at Inter Milan.

    Thanks for the comment!

  40. Casillas has a chance of winning the Ballon D'Or,he has kept exeptionally well!

    ReplyDelete
  41. comptition betwen c.ronaldo , david villa ,diago Forlan

    ReplyDelete
  42. Messi should win. He has by far been the most consistent performer. He actually played well in the World Cup and was involved in anything good that Argentina produced. Sneijder's stats aren't even that good to be honest, he doesn't get many goals and he doesn't even top the assists list like Xavi and Messi do constantly. Luckily the Ballon D'or is voted for by captain's and managers who will see that playing well in the world cup doesn't define your year. A year which Messi has more than dominated.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sneijder by far was the player of the year...What must have gone through Pellegrini's mind, knowing that Robben and Sneijder were both with Real, and both in the Champs league final and Real were not is nerve wreaking.....
He might not have the flair of Messi or arrogance of Ronaldo, but certainly has the better intelligence and vision that both of them....Huge miscarriage of justice if he doesnt win it...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Of course Cristiano Ronaldo he is more then best player of the world so CR7 Will take home the Ballon d'Or!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  45. jose and cristiano will do us porras proud

    ReplyDelete
  46. All those people who want CR7 to win Ballon d'or will be disappointed as i bet if you check statistics all the times Ballon D'or has been won in the World CUp year is by the team who won the the world cup, previously Cannavaro, Ronaldo, Zidane. Mathaus in 1990 . So its going to be one of the players who played for Barca and Spain or it can be Sneijder as so many insist as he did won the CL and were a Finalist in the World Cup.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with you Horde, if you look at the results in our poll on the right, the majority of people think that Ronaldo will win the Ballon D'Or! And there's only a very small minority that thinks David Villa, Robben, or Forlan will win it.

We'll just have to wait and see...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well i did see the poll but it makes me feel that the people voted for C.Ronaldo purely on the fact that he is a great player. This award is not for being a great player but performnce during the 2009/2010 football season. I think there are quite a few players here who actually out-performed CR7, for instance messi had a 47 goal season. He single handedly defended their league title. Sneijder albeit with some help got Inter the first Treble in Serie A history and palyed a major part in Dutch success. Iniesta palyed wonderfully and scored perhaps the most important goal of the last and next four years. while ronaldo had a good season , not a great one, ad his one goal for portugal was barely intentional.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Horde, I understand and agree with you completely, I think that the World Cup plays a huge factor in who will win the Ballon D'Or. That's why I firmly belive that it'll be Sneijder.

Horde, do you write for any soccer blogs/sites? Would you be interested in writing for Soccer Wrap Up? If you are, please drop me an email at niccoloc@hotmail.com

  50. This competition is very tight all the players nominated are incredible but, I strongly believe Cristiano Ronaldo should take home el Ballon. Many judge him for his performance in the world cup but, these people can't even imagine how it feels to be in that position so they should not be judging anyone. Plus Cristiano did play good the only thing that he didn't play the right position if he would have played behind the center forward he would have played as incredible as he did against North Korea where Portugal slottered 7-0. But, no matter he is an amazing player, great as a Portuguese player and a Real Madrid player and that should be recognized. He will show he is the best the minute Real Madrid defeats Barcelona en el Super Clasico!

    ReplyDelete
  51. the winer wil be decided on tha 29 NOV REAL MADRID VS BARCALONA.CRISTIANO RONALDO VS MESSI

    ReplyDelete
  52. The announcement of finalists will be later! I am so excited. My bets are Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas, Xabi Alonso, Mesut Ozil or Diego Forlan.

    ReplyDelete
  53. hey guys u kno wat....??
its iker casillas who shud get dis award...
its cox he has been consistent for da last 3-4 seasons...maybe his team has not got the kind of result de want...but still he is da best...

my money is on casillas...xavi....iniesta and of course leo...

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Hala Madrid even C.Ronaldo or Messi deserves it...what did Ronaldo done at World Cup?...Iniesta,Xavi,Sneijder,Schweinsteiger,Maicon,Villa,Alves deserves it really you noob.
