Liverpool overcame Benfica 4-1 at Anfield thanks to a double by Fernando Torres. Fulham keep it clean in Germany and win 1-0, goal scored by Bobby Zamora. Atletico hold it to a 0-0 draw and go through on away goals, and Hamburg overcome Standard Liege 3-1 away from home. I used to a be a big fan of the Cup Winners Cup. I was sad to see it go. As for the Europa Liga the jury is still out. Years ago the UEFA cup was a big tournament. Nowadays it is not as big as it was. But teams could do more to get fans into the stadium. Last night season ticket holders could bring a friend for 10 euro which was a good deal. Other teams should take note.
ReplyDeleteI think the Europa League is becoming more and more popular, we've seen some fantastic matches between big teams. And I think that if a "big" team wins it (like Liverpool, Atletico Madrid) then the popularity will rise.
