Ballon D'Or Finalists: Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta

The trio of finalists
FIFA have finally announced the three players which will be competing for this year's Ballon d'Or! While I have always believed that Wesley Sneijder would win this award, it seems like FIFA has decided that the Dutch player shouldn't even be amongst the finalists.

It's nice to see that FIFA have finally given recognition to Xavi and Iniesta, two very underrated players which create ridiculous amounts of goals for their club and country. It's almost unfair that FIFA can only choose one of them, especially considering that watching the two have such a deep connection and pass the ball around so beautifully.

Something else to take into consideration is that all three finalists all play for Barcelona, and two of them are Spanish, so the question arises: maybe it's La Liga which is the best league in the world right now? While I can't give a definitive answer, I'm inclined to say that La Liga has two fantastic teams, while the Premier League has an exciting mix of sides which are all of very high quality.

And what about Lionel Messi? The Argentine has a chance to win his second Ballon D'Or in a row, and he's only 23! Can Messi now be considered the greatest player of our generation?

There are so many questions with this announcement, and so few answers. One big one will arrive on January 10th when FIFA announce this year's winner of the award. Will it be Xavi? Iniesta? Or Messi? Michel Platini says that Xavi should win it, and I agree with the UEFA president, the question is, do you? Comment below!

  1. Xavi. Yes Messi is amazing, but there's a reason he had a poor World Cup. He has no Xavi in Argentina who can pass him the ball to finish like in Barcelona. It's about time FIFA recognizes XAVI's brilliance.

  2. Its high time u realise that Messi doesn't need anyone to shine. He does stuff himself. get that straight. He just had a bad tournament. which happens to everyone. as simple as that. even with his bad worldcup, u saw his one or two moves which showed he is a star. no doubt!
I hve been a barca fan from birth and knw the in and outs of this club. Xavi is the engine of our club and had a wonderful world cup and season. Iniesta is just wonderful, but its not his time now because of who he is competing the crown with.
I will select Xavi because he is aging and the kind of soccer he has produced needs some world recognition. Messi nevertheless is still the world best. u cnt fight that unless u are shallow in the world of football.
    Xavi 2010/2011 winner!! congratulations

  3. Its not bad, that xavi gets the ballon d'or, but it has some negatives as the world's accepted fact f lionel messi's great talent. without messi, barcelona is never complete. he must repeatedly get the ballon d'or for this year too...

  4. I admire all three, I think they should all share the ballon d'or for this year. They are great together, they complete one another. Most importantly they are very classy players with good attitude. They deserve all the awards for this year. I love you guys. Please continue to amaze us in football.

  5. MESSI..... ballon d'or is not only about world cup...but for every match in a year... world cup may be the greatest tournament..i agree.. but for this honour ,we should not consider only world cup..
MESSI had been splendid in forms of the game...he was not bad at World cup.. he couldn't net the ball because the team didn't cope up really well..thats it... his moves in the world cup, still says he is the best player..

DONT FORGET THAT HE SCORED "47" GOALS IN A SEASON...

    i opt MESSI MESSI MESSI......
