Atletico Madrid conquer Europa League with Forlan double

Atletico Madrid win UEFA Europa League Final 2009-10
The Europa League final has ended 2-1 for Atletico Madrid, both teams were going for the trophy 100% considering that Fulham finished 12th in the Premier League and Atletico Madrid are 9th in La Liga. Here's SWU's match report.

Atletico Madrid - Fulham

While some will complain that this match was not as entertaining as most, the tension and passion was certainly there to be seen in Hamburg. In the first half, Atletico were strong and convincing, they manouvered well creating space with Aguero who fed Forlan along with Reyes and Simao. The first goal eventually came after Aguero's failed shot which Forlan leaped on and put in the back of the net, but Fulham were beginning to rise. Eventually Fulham found the goal before halftime with Davies who from close range near the post volleyed in a shot which restored everything back to parity. After halftime Fulham began to raise the tempo of the match, causing Atletico problems with the subbed on Dempsey for Zamora. De Gea was fantastic at stopping attempts from Davies and the Englishmen, but it eventually went to extra time. While Fulham were happily waiting for it to go to penalties, Atletico (and Forlan) stepped up their game big time, first the Uruguyan striker played a golden pass to Salvio who wasted the opportunity, then Diego did the work himself and tapped Aguero's cross in to give the trophy to the Spaniards.

Final score 2-0 for the United States of America

Match Report

Spain being the favorites to win the Confederations Cup came out with arrogance against a tough hardworking USA side that constantly fielded 10 men behind the ball, counter-attacking with speed and precision.
The USA start off well in the 4th minute with Casillas having to clear the ball off of Altidores feet, and Ricardo clark in the 6th minute tries a bicycle kick that ends up wide of the left post. Dempsey in the 8th minute shoots from outside the box that ends up just wide. Spain try and cause havoc but Torres cant find his scoring boots.
In the 27th minute Jozy Altidore scores with powerful hold up play that ends up with a hard and low shot on goal that Casillas could only get a hand to. in the 45th minute Tim Howard saves well as Torres' shot ricochets off of Howards foot and into the post. In the second half Spain put more pressure on the Americans with David Villa and Riera, but Howard saves and Riera shoots just wide. The USA double their lead with Dempsey in the 72nd minute after Donovan's shot is deflected and not cleared and Dempsey steals away and shoots past Casillas. Spain tries to mix it up by replacing Riera for Mata in the 78th minute. Xabi Alonso tries to score but Howard is equal to it. Casey replaces the impressive Altidorein the 83rd minute.
Michael Bradley is sent off for a foul on Xabi Alonso and will miss the final, Howard continues to prove himself as he saves Puyol's close shot. in the 89th minute Bornstein replaces a great Dempsey. And Spain try a last attempt to score as Howard saves at the feet of Villa.
The USA finishes this game with tactical nuance and a score-line that reflects the hardworking side, 2-0.
